World Championships in and for Germany
FEI World Equestrian Games: "Germany - Land of Ideas" Initiative Official Partner

The FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006 (August 20th - September 3rd) are going to be a World Championships tournament in and for Germany. "500,000 visitors and 800 equestrian athletes from all over the world are coming to our show grounds to support the competitions in seven disciplines. And many of them will take this opportunity to get to know our region and the whole of Germany," says Michael Mronz, member and spokesman of the WEG OC. It goes without saying therefore that the "Germany - Land of Ideas" Initiative has now also become a sponsor of the FEI WEG Aachen 2006.
Under the patronship of the Federal President, Horst Köhler, the aim of the Initiative is to present the Federal Republic to its international guests as a modern nation of inventors with strong innovative power, a country in which cosmopolitan and friendly people live. The Initiative is supported by the Government and by the economy, represented by the Federal Association of the German Industry (BDI) and leading companies.
The "Germany - Land of Ideas" Initiative will promote the country and its people at the show grounds of the organisers of the WEG, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), with a collection of diverse campaigns. "After all we will be welcoming 500,000 equestrian fans from over 50 nations," comments Mronz. "And they too will celebrate an emotional festival with us, comparable to the Football World Cup."
Mike de Vries, Managing Director of FC Deutschland GmbH, the company coordinating the Initiative, is of a similar opinion: "The FEI World Equestrian Games will enable us to experience a further magnificent sporting event in our own country. We are pleased that we now have the opportunity to introduce ourselves in Aachen after the success of our PR campaign during the Football World Cup. I can hardly imagine a more appropriate messenger for conveying a positive image of Germany than the successful equestrian sportsmen and women, who will be competing here with their horses. So we are delighted to support the FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006."
The Initiative is represented with a "Land of Ideas Pavilion" in the WEG Village throughout the whole duration of the tournament. Furthermore, they are organising the official media party on August 30th, 2006 under the motto "Germany - Land of Ideas", which will be attended by the media representatives from home and abroad, who are present at the event.
The Federal Chancellor, Angela Merkel, Patron of the FEI World Equestrian Games, underlined recently: "The media interest will be huge, numerous TV channels will be reporting from Aachen and will convey an image of the hospitable country of equestrian fans. This is also important for Germany as an economic location." The visitors will bring an economic power of 230 million Euros to the region, in addition 1,300 journalists will be our guests. The equestrian sport already contributes significantly to the economy in the Federal Republic: The sector achieves a turnover of around five billion Euros annually, horses from the "Land of Ideas" are export best-sellers worldwide.
The FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006 are the second largest sporting event in Germany this decade. 16 World Championship titles will be awarded in seven disciplines - show-jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining.
