German Horse Breeders: The Eight World Champions
A further World Champion can already be acclaimed even before the
FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen have come a close: The German
breeders. Only the German horses have been more successful than
the German equestrian athletes themselves. Whereas, two days before
the World Championships finish, the German competitors have won
five gold, one silver and two bronze medals and are clearly at the
top of the medal ranking so far, German horses have won 26 medals
todate, eleven of which were in fact gold.
The first medal collecting discipline was the dressage. Of the
18 medals up for grabs, 13 were won by German horses (six gold,
three silver and four bronze). 43 of the 86 horses that competed
in the dressage competitions were German-bred.
In the show-jumping, where the individual classification is not
yet decided, German horses have won two gold and three bronze medals
up until now. Overall 116 horses entered this discipline and 51
of them originated from Germany.
In the meantime the German horses have taken on a similar significance
in the vaulting sport as well. 83 horses competed and 33 of them
carried a German brand. The medal statistic in this discipline shows
why the German horses are so popular in the vaulting sport. Nine
medals were awarded and six of them were won with the aid of German
horses (one gold, three silver and two bronze medals).
Of the 79 horses competition in the eventing only 7 were of German
descent, but they managed to claim 2 gold medals, which was also
a very good success rate.
In the Four-in-Hand Driving competition that is still not finished,
40 of the 245 horses competing belong to German breeding associations.
The disciplines endurance and reining don't belong to the domains
of the German breeders, but in fact seven of the 159 endurance horses
did originate from German.
