WEG Aachen: 80,000 Euros for therapeutic riding
Charity campaign: ALRV donates proceeds

80,000 Euros were raised in aid of therapeutic riding by the "Moments of Luck" charity campaign during the FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006: The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) donated the proceeds of the ZDF Sportstudio programme held in the Deutsche Bank Stadium and the collection of the WEG ecumenical service to the Children's Aid Fund of the charity partners, the "German Curatorship for Therapeutic Riding" (DKThR) and the "Förderkreis of Sports for the Disabled e.V.". Including the raffle draw of an art horse together with an autograph board signed by all of the World Champions and the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, 40,000 Euros were collected from the public. "Supporting therapeutic riding has been a matter close to our hearts and part of our manifold charity work for years," commented ALRV President, Klaus Pavel.

In addition to this, a further art horse with the autographs of all of the World Champions was auctioned off on the last evening of the World Championships at a dinner attended by celebrities from the political, sports and media circles, raising a further 40,000 Euros. The auctioneer, Uwe Heckmann, accepted the final bid from Jürgen Thumann, President of the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI). "We are pleased that with the help of this large sum a lot more children throughout the whole of Germany will be able to enjoy therapeutic riding," said DKThR General Director, Sacha Eckjans. In therapeutic riding lessons the horse is specifically implemented by people, who have contact or learning problems, who are psychologically labile or who are handicapped.
