Aachen will serve as a platform for the German riders to give their
sporting reply to the Athens Olympic Games: The joy of the German
eventing team and Bettina Hoy at winning a gold medal in 2004 was
short and sweet, since they were stripped of both titles by the
green table decision: Hoy had inadvertedly crossed the starting
line twice in the show-jumping competition of the team classification.
After protests were placed by the teams from France, England and
the USA, Germany was relegated to fourth place in the team classification,
Hoy was knocked back to ninth position in the individual result.
Therefore the viewers can rest assured that they are going to enjoy
particularly exciting competitions when the old rivals meet again
in this discipline that is a combination of show-jumping, dressage
and cross-country.
This discipline demands diverse talent on the side of both rider
and horse. The initial dressage competition will be followed by
the spectacular cross-country course on the Soers grounds that allows
the spectators a clear overview. Here the equestrian athletes and
their horses have to master natural obstacles such as water ditches
or tree trunks. However, it is most likely that the decision in
the fight for the respective title in the individual and team classifications
won't fall until the third competition has come to an end - i.e.
the show-jumping course, which will be watched by tens of thousands
of fans in the main stadium of the ALRV, Stadium 1.
